In 2003, a minimum required performance limit (MRPL) for CAP residues in food of animal origin was set at 0.3 µg\/kg. This CAP-ELISA is suitable for the detection of GAP and its glucuronide (major metabolite urine). CAP can be detected in urine directly (after a dilution in buffer), or after ethyl acetate extraction for increased sensitivity and specificity. Defatted milk samples can also be applied to the test directly with a detection limit of 0.1 ng\/ml. This detection limit can be lowered ten times using an extraction in ethyl acetate.
